Siteground Hosting Review

Being on the hunt for a new hosting provider, I came across siteground hosting and have quickly become a fan! This is my review.

Being in existence since 2004, the company, SiteGround, is one which provides a full collection of services for web hosting, as well as WordPress.

Note: if you need sincere SiteGround Reviews, note that I pay for using SiteGround WordPress Web Hosting as a client. And compared to other reviews that may be created based on free trials, this review is founded on my genuine encounters from using my valid live SiteGround web hosting account.

Options for Hosting

There are three types of SiteGround plans for managed WordPress web hosting:

StartUp:

  • For starters
  • A single Website
  • For approximately 10,000 visits every month

GrowBig:

  • Incorporates Premium Functions
  • Numerous Websites
  • For nearly 25,000 visits every month

GoGeek:

  • Incorporates staging region
  • Various Websites
  • For almost 100,000 visits every month

On my part, I chose the GrowBig plan. The GoGeek is directed to enterprise users. Nevertheless, I would recommend exploring MediaTemple or WP Engine for those situations, if you require that resource level. The SiteGround GrowBig Plan is most suitable for small businesses and individual sites of WordPress, which need controlled hosting.

Data Centers for SiteGround

There are five data centers for SiteGround, which extend across three different continents. They include London, UK; Milan IT; Chicago, IL; Singapore SG; and Amsterdam, NL. Therefore, you can select one which is the closest to your guests to ensure swifter times of loading. Also, the speed of your website is even faster with SiteGround’s SuperCacher Technology.

Signing Up

It is very stress-free and clear-cut to sign up with SiteGround. You can make payments using your credit card. Nonetheless, if you wish to pay through PayPal, you can ask for support to do that. You will be required to submit the form of the order together with the billing data left vacant. After that, they will give you a unique link to proceed with your payment with PayPal.

When you are done with the signup process, you will get a welcome email together with your login data and link to access your account area for SiteGround.

In your SiteGround client account, you will find all the relevant data on the settings of your account. You also can explore through the tabs to get billing information, support, and extra services and assets.

Moving an accessible WordPress Site

It will be of joy to know that SiteGround will transfer your site for no cost if you have a website for WordPress online with a different host. You might also want to move the site without any help. On my part, I chose to transfer my site myself. I did a fresh installation of WordPress in my account for SiteGround, and then I imported my already-existing database into the one I created at SiteGround. After that, I merely had to copy my WP-content folder and transferred it to SiteGround. Ever since then, my website has been active and functioning correctly!

After you install WordPress, you will get a confirmation email together with your admin details of login and links to videos and tutorials.

Features of SiteGround Hosting

Apart from the area of account administration for SiteGround, you also get cPanel as your management interface. I love that SiteGround has had their cPanel customized with your account administration options accessible at the top. Owners of WordPress sites, in particular, will enjoy the segment for WordPress Tools, where you can click on options for installing WordPress, facilitating auto updates and the SuperCacher, performing administrative functions, and setting up GIT and staging.

Improved Control of Automatic Updates of WordPress

Although several companies for web hosting provide automatic WordPress updates, SiteGround, in this area, also progresses by taking another step. By using SiteGround’s up-to-the-minute scheduling tool, you now can better control your automatic updates of WordPress. SiteGround’s WordPress updates default plan is an instant upgrade for negligible releases of security, and a 24-hour update for main upgrades. Nevertheless, you can alter the scheduling for the times when both major and minor upgrades take place to 24 hours, 48 hours, or 72 hours, and thus, you have enough time to get your website set for the updates.

You can, as you wish, click the WP Auto Update icon, which is in your cPanel, to plan the auto updates for your WordPress.

Automatic Updates for WordPress Plugins

SiteGround offers more features in terms of updates for WordPress. As it is included in the latest Auto Update Scheduling, you can update all of your WordPress plugins. This feature is unique and is found only in superior managed plans for hosting. Besides, it also shows how committed SiteGround is to corrections and advancements.

From the scheduling area for WP Auto Update, you can facilitate updates for automatic Plugin.

With the WordPress Toolkit, you can computerize tasks like rearranging admin keys, altering domains, and transferring or erasing WP installations.

SuperCacher for Better Website Speed

For a faster and more versatile website which can control more visits, The SiteGround SuperCacher provides more caching functionality levels.

There are three different levels from SuperCacher to increases the speed of your website:

•    Varnish Static Cache

•    Varnish Dynamic Cache

•    Memcached

With the speed of the website, as well as their overall performance, SiteGround is impressive. SiteGround generated one of the best loading times for sites we have seen so far, during our current testing for speed. SiteGround has so far, produced several incredible results with their consistent improvements to their platform for hosting, alongside their SuperCacher technology, plus because they always attempt to offer the most recent PHP versions.

The following is an example of the results from our SiteGround testing for speed for all 3 U.S. regions.

Backup and Restore of Data

Additionally, SiteGround possesses one of the most superior features of automatic daily data backup and restore. While you can choose to restore from 30 days ago, your site information is backed up daily automatically. You only need to access your cPanel and scroll to the section of Backups Manager to restore your information or produce a backup copy manually.

UPDATE: this is good news, particularly for customers of GoGeek hosting plan. Now, SiteGround has upgraded its outstanding data backup as well as restore functions. So, apart from automated daily backups, you can also produce backup duplicates whenever you wish, on demand. This feature is great for use, for instance, before you upgrade your plugins and themes. You can create five immediate on-demand backup duplicates of your statistics, plus backup duplicates, which are designed for you, while you use the latest backup feature.

With SiteGround’s GoGeek plan for hosting, you get immediate on-demand backups for free. Although you can also access it on StartUp and GrowBig plan for hosting, you will have to pay. Nevertheless, customers of StartUp plan would love that automated daily backup are added to every plan for hosting.

Consumer Support

I’d rather admit that the customer support SiteGround offers has been great so far. The response time for their live chat support is outstanding, and the support staffs I have had experience with were all friendly and prompt in the ways they addressed my issue.

The following is an illustration screenshot from one of my chat support meetings.

SiteGround’s customer support staff receives extensive training, and it reflects in the excellent responsive support I have been receiving so far. I particularly asked after the support team when I conversed with Reneta Tsankova, the Chief Operating Officer for SiteGround. She clarified that every new member of the support team receives at last a training of 2 to 4 weeks, even before replying customers. Then, they address customers’ issues while a mentor guides them. This training extends for about 3 to 6 months until the agent is prepared to solve clients’ problems without any help.

Innovation and Improvements of SiteGround

Apart from their outstanding support and service, SiteGround is different from its counterparts in that it is consistently committed to enhancements in their technology.  Ever since I have been a client to SiteGround, I have experienced several annual updates, such as the following illustrations:

Up-to-the-minute In-House System for Recovery and Backup

SiteGround can restore data from an entire server with effectiveness and swift, due to their Up-to-the-minute System for Recovery and Backup. Although it is not commonly required to restore an entire server, in case it happens, the new system effectively reduces website downtime.

Exceptional Artificial Intelligence (AI) Anti-Bot System

Additionally, the AI system developed by SiteGround can keep off about two million severe force invasions in a single hour. The attacks are halted at the level of the server, just before they get to the websites of the clients.

WordPress Starter

SiteGround is preferable for WordPress beginners, due to their improvements. With the WordPress Starter tool, you easily explore the creation course of the site. After WordPress installation, if you are new at your WordPress Admin, WordPress Starter robotically starts and aids you in choosing the theme and including the functionality, which is needed by your site. It also adds a tailored WordPress dashboard, and thus, allows you to reach your site functions easily.

Final Thoughts

I hope you have found this review helpful. Having moved over from Hostgator, I can say that I am really digging Siteground so far. There are a lot of features, and some great ideas, wrapped in a pretty clean interface, which I find to be refreshing.

With good hosting options available at different price points, and plenty of speed on tap for your sites, you will be hard-pressed to find better hosting at this point in time.
